Buckets on the Aerial Tram—The buckets on the tram line were placed at 50foot intervals. Each held about 1,500 lbs. of coal. The pulleys on which the line ran were cared for and inspected daily by an oiler who traveled the line. Although the oiler was expected to walk and perform this service, he usually rode the buckets, getting off at each tower and catching another bucket as it came along after his work was done. By the riding, a line could be oiled in two hours. Bert Reese performed this service on two of the lines.
