Aerial Tram to the Foster Mine—The No. 3 Aerial Tram line ran almost directly west from the town of Aldridge to the Foster Mine two miles away. The bunker for the Foster is shown here beyond the towers through the heavy timber. With the No. 3 line being of such length, a cable tightener was required to keep it taut. The heavy framework supported an eightfoot square box of rocks which could be adjusted to the proper weight to keep the slack out of the line. The box was constantly going up and down. It was this box which dropped on Joe Versnik, fracturing his skull and causing his death. A second tightener, smaller than this, was on the same line.
